HOW IT STARTED

The beginnings can be traced back to role-play games, especially Dungeons&Dragons. The game started gaining popularity in the 70’ in Great Britain. About a dacade later, on the british television you could watch a broadcast of adventure and sci-fi games. The interest kept growing and not long after there were video games created in Japan following an escape the room formula. One of the more popular games of this type was created by Takao Kato in 2007. In 2011 in Hungary the first european Real Escape Game was available within a Parapark franchise. Escape rooms in Budapest were held in emptied bulidings and old houses – it’s usually where it started in other european cities as well.

WHY DO PEOPLE LOVE ESCAPE ROOMS?

What exactly was it that made escape rooms rise to popularity so quickly? With so much entertainment being available exclusively online, it seems like people are hungry for experiences happening in real life, within physical spaces and in real-time connection with people. Escape rooms are quite interdysciplinary, making it a great way to use different skills as well as being a creative outlet. Advanced technologies being used in escape room games make it even more exciting!
